Urban Plates, a commissary-style eatery noted for its organic and affordable fare, opened its fifth Orange County location on Monday, Nov. 20, in Fountain Valley. This gives the Solana Beach-headquartered chain its 19th restaurant since first opening n 2011.
In honor of the latest addition to its portfolio, Urban Plates will host a community grand-opening party at the Fountain Valley space on Saturday, Dec. 2, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. The event will feature live music by DJ Mel, a build-your-own bouquet station by Pixie Pop-Ups, complimentary fare and giveaways.
The restaurant’s concept features organic, in-house prepared meals at a reasonable price point compared to more high-end dining spots with similar menus. For example: The beets and avocado bowl, which comes with red and white quinoa, roasted beets, avocado, walnuts, pickled red onion, comes to $12.95. A crispy tender chicken sandwich, featuring buttermilk-battered chicken on a toasted potato bun with roasted garlic aioli and pickles, costs $11.95. A chili-glazed grilled tofu bowl with quinoa and sesame broccolini runs $11.95. And for more carnivorous-minded diners, the grass-fed steak with chimichurri comes to $19.95.

The dessert menu also offers by-the-slice or whole cake options like a mango tart, hummingbird cake and a chocolate-vanilla layer cake with vanilla bean cream, chocolate ganache, seasonal berries and edible flowers.
Founded by Saad Nadhir and John Zagara, Urban Plates has locations throughout San Diego, Orange and Los Angeles counties and Northern California.
