Michael Moffett and his family company have been inside people’s homes fixing pipes and ventilation systems since 1969.
It’s safe to say he’s got a pulse on the local economy, and from his perspective, it’s challenging.
“People are hurting,” he says. “Plumbing and HVAC have always been expensive, but with rising costs across the board, it’s becoming more and more challenging to provide a fantastic service, with quality materials, at an affordable price.”
That keeps Moffett on his toes, finding work for his team of 35 in Orange. The company, which is approaching its 55th anniversary next year, was honored for the first time this year in the Register’s 16th annual Top Workplaces program.
Employees commended Moffett for giving them the freedom to express new ideas and further develop the company.
“It’s very rewarding,” wrote one employee in the workplace survey. “We get to be the hero every day.”
“I feel no stress in my position where there should be a lot,” wrote another.”And to be able to do things right and with truth to better our customers’ experience with a great company is a great feeling.”
We asked Michael Moffett to share more of what he’s seeing with his team. His answers have been edited for length.
Q: What are your big takeaways this year with inflation and the general economy?
We continue to throw a ton of value at our clients to differentiate ourselves from the one-truck operators who have no problem installing sub-par products. It really forces our team to focus on understanding our product offerings and consulting our clients on the advantages of these products.
Top that off with the fact that most plumbing or A/C products are usually out-of-sight, out-of-mind, and it makes for a very challenging environment.
