A Laguna Beach home on a double lot in the Woods Cove neighborhood is up for sale at $4.995 million.
This four-bedroom, 2,275-square-foot residence with three bathrooms blends Craftsman style with modern amenities. It belonged to the late noted Samuel Taylor Coleridge biographer Norman Fruman and his wife, Doris.
According to the listing agent John Stanaland of Douglas Elliman Real Estate, the family has owned the property since the 1970s. Redfin data, pulled from public records, shows it sold last in December 1970 for $35,000.
The Frumans demolished the previous structure on this lot, which dated to 1948, and built the current house in 1998.
That shingled house has a large front lawn and is mostly hidden from the street by landscaping. Inside, the entryway boasts a staircase adorned by unique wood railings and an Arts and Crafts-style lighting fixture.
Wood-framed windows and wood flooring extend throughout the house.
A brick fireplace with a wood mantle anchors the living room.
The kitchen features a Dutch door, ample storage, a gas range, double ovens and a sliver of an ocean view. A low wall separates it from the dining room where French doors swing open to the wraparound deck.
Upstairs, under a vaulted ceiling with beams is the primary suite. It has a walk-in closet and double doors to a private upper deck. The bathroom offers double sinks, a vanity area and a jetted tub with partial ocean views.
One of the other two bedrooms on the top floor can double as a home office or secondary living room.
There’s also a laundry closet.
Fruman, who died in April 2012 at 88, is the author of “Coolridge, The Damaged Archangel.” The 1971 release that “roiled literary waters,” as the New York Times put it, unmasked the English Romantic poet most famous for “The Rime of the Ancient Mariner,” “Kubla Khan’ and “Christabel” as a plagiarist.
When the book came out, its author was teaching English at Cal State Los Angeles.
