Laguna Beach police were investigating the death of a woman after a construction worker found her body behind a building off Ocean Avenue on Sunday morning, Nov. 12, authorities said.
The worker called police about 8:20 a.m. after finding the body of a woman, possibly in her mid- to late 20s,”down in a secluded location near the 200 block of Ocean Avenue,” Laguna Beach police said in a statement Sunday night.
Detectives “found the scene to be suspicious” and were investigating the death as a homicide, police said. The location is near Coast Highway.
The cause of death was not yet known and police said it would be determined by the coroner. The woman was not identified by police pending notification of her relatives.
“We are saddened by this senseless act of violence,” Laguna Beach Police Chief Jeff Calvert said in a statement. “Our detectives are working diligently to bring the suspect(s) to justice.”
It was not known if detectives believe the woman was killed at the scene or if her body had been placed there.
