It’s official.
Broad Street Oyster Company, a New England-inspired, California seafood restaurant specializing in lobster rolls, chowders, and titular raw oysters, will open Saturday, Aug. 19. at the the tip of the historic Huntington Beach Pier. Billed as an “approachable seafood concept” by founder and owner Christopher Tompkins, this is his fourth Broad Street Oyster Company location.
“I can’t think of a more perfect location than the Huntington Beach Pier,” he told the Orange County Register in May during renovations. “Everything about it screams California, coastal, summertime beach town. It’s all there.”
Oceanic highlights inside the bright and airy new eatery include a raw bar menu, with everything from oysters on the half shell and shrimp cocktail to caviar service and a seafood tower; two types of lobster rolls (chilled or warm); fried oysters; soft shell crab sandwich; and fish and chips. (A classic hamburger, fries, and house-made chips are available for diners hankering for more land-based fare.)
While the hexagonal venue’s red-hued roof remains, much of the space has been renovated in anticipation of Tompkins’ restaurant. Newly varnished hardwood flooring provides warm contrast to the high gloss, diamond-patterned ceiling. A thematic mass of carefully clustered buoys are used as wall art. Yellow and turquoise accents nod to the town’s ’80s/’90s surf punk history. Speaking of which, surf movies such as “North Shore” and “Point Break” will loop on screens while diners eat.
The new seafood eatery also offers nearly 360-degree views of the Pacific Ocean and Surf City’s famed beach. Not too shabby a place for slurping down fresh oysters and sipping cold white wine and craft beers.
