A man was shot and injured by officers with the Los Angeles Police Department on Tuesday, Feb. 7, in a residential area in Van Nuys.

Officers responded to the area of Tyrone Avenue and Victory Boulevard at around 3:40 p.m. and spotted a “known suspect” riding a bicycle who was wanted for a felony charge, according to LAPD Valley Bureau Deputy Chief Alan Hamilton in a news conference Tuesday night. Hamilton did not specify what crime the suspect was wanted for.

“The individual produced a gun and an officer-involved shooting occurred,” Hamilton said.

LAPD officers initially fired at least one shot.

When the suspect fled the scene shortly after, officers fired again.

The suspect, who was taken to the hospital, is expected to survive. His identity was not immediately made public.

A weapon believed to be a handgun was found at the scene. Also at the scene was a white pickup truck with at least one bullet hole. Officers would not confirm whose gunfire the bullet hole came from, or if the car belonged to the suspect.

The area of Tyrone and Victory was closed for the investigation.
