The Crestline hotel employee shot earlier this week died on Thursday, Oct. 26, the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department said.
Steven D. Colter, a 51-year-old resident of San Bernardino, died at Loma Linda University Medical Center, the Coroner’s Office said.
The shooting was reported at 2:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Sleepy Hollow Hotel at 24033 Lake Drive in the San Bernardino Mountains community.
Deputies arrested Brian Joseph Serrano, 43, of Sun City and Jaime Avila Rojas, 46, of Santa Ana as they attempted to drive away, the Sheriff’s Department said.
Rojas suffered unspecified injuries during the confrontation and was treated at a hospital before being booked into jail. A sheriff’s spokeswoman previously said two people had been shot.
Both suspects are being held without the possibility of bail at the West Valley Detention Center. Both were booked on suspicion of murder, and Rojas also was accused of conspiracy to commit a felony. Before Colter died, they had been booked on attempt murder.
Investigators on Friday were not releasing additional details on the circumstances of the shooting, said Gloria Huerta, a sheriff’s spokeswoman.
