Police are seeking witnesses to a collision on a major thoroughfare in Newport Beach that left one driver dead and another seriously injured on Saturday.
Around 4:30 p.m., police received multiple reports of a crash involving two cars at the intersection of MacArthur Boulevard and Bowsprit Drive. One driver, whose identity has not been released, was found dead at the scene, Newport Beach police Sgt. Steve Oberon said in a news release.
The second driver was hospitalized. Details on that person’s condition were not provided, though the injuries were described in the release as “significant.”
The collision, which shut down part of MacArthur Boulevard for several hours on Saturday evening, remains under investigation.
