A Singaporean take on a spicy Southeast Asian favorite, laksa, a noodle-dish staple of Peranakan cuisine, can now be found in xiao long bao (or soup dumpling) form at Paradise Dynasty. The South Coast Plaza eatery, which specializes in xiao long bao, debuted the new dumplings this week as part of National Dumping Day.
The new dumplings feature Kurobuta pork floating in a spicy coconut curry broth.
Paradise Dynasty arrived in Orange County in September 2021, its first flagship restaurant outside of Asia, and quickly became a sensation due, in part, to its Instagram-popular rainbow soup dumplings. “I needed the macarons of dumplings,” Paradise Dynasty chef and founder Eldwin Chua told Food and Wine magazine in a 2021 interview. Indeed, the multi-hued dumplings proved popular with palates and social media platforms where folks routinely splash images of the colorful xiao long bao.
The new laksa soup dumplings, featuring a white and orange exterior, are available for a limited time. You can get them until Nov. 17.
Located inside the Collage Collection at South Coast Plaza, Paradise Dynasty sells more than 5,000 dumplings a day in Costa Mesa. Other soup dumplings staples include crab roe, Kurobuta pork, garlic, kimchi and black truffle.
