With a goal bigger than counting steps on a pedometer, thousands set out for a walk at Fashion Island on Sunday, Sept. 24.
Susan G. Komen hosted its More Than Pink Walk, challenging participants to raise a $600,000 fundraising goal.
And people answered: Participants with breast cancer and survivors put on their walking shoes, along with the family and friends who support them, and those who walked in memory of someone who lost their fight.
The money raised helps support research and services for patients, including financial assistance, screenings and diagnostics.
“Continuing to support individuals going through breast cancer in our community is a critical mission,” Megan Klink, the organization’s western region vice president, said in a statement, “and the demand for our services continues to increase.”
