English punk and folk rock singer Frank Turner is completely taking over House of Blues in Anaheim with his sixth annual Lost Evenings Festival on Sept. 21-24.
The four-day event will feature music playing across two stages, music industry panel discussions and other activations, with each evening being capped by Turner and his band The Sleeping Souls performing a different set every night.
“I think it’s something like 90 songs over four days,” Turner said during a recent phone interview from a tour stop in Missouri. He said there’s about five shows left before they hit Anaheim, so they’re running through a variety of tunes during soundcheck before each show to shake off any rust.
“It’s a lot of fun and it’s sort of my ambition to repeat as few songs as possible between the nights because I do have a large catalog now,” he said, noting that his band refers to his festival as “the annual exam” since it covers so much material. On Sept. 21, he’ll play an acoustic set with Matt Nasir and do songs from his first four albums on Sept. 22. Turner will celebrate the 10th anniversary of “Tape Deck Heart” by playing that album in full on Sept. 23 and he’ll end the fest with a career-spanning set that will feature deep cuts, hits and everything in between on Sept. 24.
He’ll be joined by Pedro the Lion, KT Tunstall, Micah Schnabel, Bad Cop/Bad Cop, Codefendants, Jen Razavi, Chuck Ragan, Beans on Toast, Destroy Boys, The Last Gang, Koo Koo Kanga Roo and more throughout the event. Picking the lineups each year, he said, can be challenging but it’s important for him to include a mix of up-and-coming acts as well as established artists on the bill.
“A huge way I made my bones as an artist was opening up for bigger artists when I was coming up,” he said. “I feel it’s my duty to pay that forward. I also just like to curate a cool night of music.”
