Each week, publications from the Southern California News Group’s 11 properties (Orange County Register, L.A. Daily News, Press-Enterprise, San Gabriel Valley Tribune, Long Beach Press-Telegram, The Daily Breeze, San Bernardino Sun, Daily Bulletin, Redlands Daily Facts, Whittier Daily News and Pasadena-Star News) select the Athletes of the Week for their respective region.
Each athlete is then entered into the overall Southern California Athlete of the Week vote.
Click on the newspaper links below the athlete’s name to read about their performance from last week, and then vote for who you think deserves the top honor.
Readers are allowed to vote multiple times. Voting ends at Friday at noon, but final totals aren’t always immediately reflected due to processing.

Crystal Moreno, El Rancho: Moreno scored in the quarterfinals and semifinals to help El Rancho advance to the CIF Southern Section Division 4 championship game against Western Christian. Moreno scored in the Dons’ 2-1 quarterfinal victory over Viewpoint. She scored on a decisive penalty kick and also had an assist to send the Dons to the championship game with a 3-2 win over Cerritos in the semifinals. The final will be played Saturday at Bonita HS. The start time has not been determined.
Madison Watts, Leuzinger: Watts averaged 23.6 points in three playoff games last week for the Olympians. Watts capped the three-game week with 28 points in a semifinal win over Village Christian. She also had eight rebounds, five steals and four blocks. Leuzinger will face Brentwood in the CIF-SS Division 2A final Saturday at noon at Mira Costa High School.
Jaden Soto, Murrieta Valley: Soto, who is head to Concordia, registered 22 saves as the Nighthawks edged Millikan 7-6 in the CIF Southern Section Division 2 championship match. Her performance in the cage helped the program win…
