SHERMAN OAKS — Harvard-Westlake pitcher Duncan Marsten squatted and looked at the palm of his hand at the beginning of every inning of Wednesday’s game against Notre Dame.
“That’s kind of just centering all the energy I have into this hand,” Marsten said, “because that’s all I really need.”
The Wolverines’ offense went to work early as Marsten maintained his focus to help Harvard-Westlake come out with an 8-5 win and beat the Knights for the second time in as many days to remain on top of the Mission League baseball standings.
Roughly 50 professional baseball scouts came out to watch the game, which was flooded with talent between the two teams. Levi Sterling, the No. 40 MLB prospect, started at pitcher for the Knights (5-6-1 overall, 2-4-1 in Mission League) and Bryce Rainer was at shortstop for Harvard-Westlake (10-1-1, 6-0-1), which beat the Knights 2-1 on Tuesday.
