PITCHING REPORT: Right-hander Michael Grove retired all six batters he faced in two scoreless innings, two on strikeouts. … Evan Phillips and Alex Vesia made their first Cactus League appearances of the spring. Phillips gave up a triple to Corbin Carroll in a scoreless inning. Vesia gave up a single and then got a double play in his inning. … Phil Bickford struggled during a four-run seventh inning that tied the score.
HITTING REPORT: Freddie Freeman drove in three runs with a double and his second home run of the spring. … James Outman reached base three times on a single, a walk and a hit by pitch. … Yonny Hernandez had an RBI double. … Miguel Vargas has not taken a swing in a Cactus League game this spring. But he walked again Thursday and has one in each of his four games to lead the team in walks.
DEFENSE REPORT: Vargas was charged with an error when he fumbled a ground ball to his right in the third inning. A run scored when the two-out error was followed by an RBI double. … Playing third base, Hernandez was charged with a throwing error on one play but made two outstanding plays as well. He ran down a pop-up in foul territory and made a sliding catch near the tarp. Then in the ninth, he charged a chopped ground ball and threw the runner out.
