THE GAME: Trey Cabbage hit a game-tying homer in the top of the ninth inning, but then Kenyon Yovan walked in a run in the bottom of the ninth in the Angels’ 6-5 loss to the Dodgers on Friday in Glendale, Ariz. The Angels are 8-5-1 in Cactus League games.
PITCHING REPORT: Left-hander Reid Detmers was charged with one run in 3-2/3 innings. The only run he allowed came after he was out of the game, striking out three and walking two. Detmers gave up one hit. He threw 59 pitches. Detmers said he enjoyed the opportunity to share the mound with Dodgers ace Clayton Kershaw. “Obviously, I grew up watching him,” Detmers said. “I’ve read a lot about him, and I study him pretty hard. It’s cool to go out there and pitch against him, see how he works, see how he sequences and just how he moves.” Detmers has allowed two runs in eight innings this spring, with 11 strikeouts. … Right-hander Nash Walters did not retire any of the first three hitters he faced, allowing the base runner he inherited from Detmers to score. … Right-hander Mason Erla allowed one run in two innings.
HITTING REPORT: Taylor Ward led off the game with a homer against Clayton Kershaw, his first homer of the spring. Ward, who also walked, is 7 for 16 this spring, not including two hits against Team USA on Thursday. … The Angels produced another run in the first after hits by Kevin Padlo, Matt Thaiss and Zach Neto. … Padlo added a home run in the third inning, his first of the spring. Padlo is 7 for 22 this spring. A non-roster invitee, Padlo has appeared in 23 major league games over the past two seasons with four teams. He plays first and third base. … Thaiss had two singles on ground balls to right field, precisely the type of hits that will be more frequent now that teams can’t shift. Thaiss is 6 for 13 with five walks this spring. … Jo Adell had a single, improving to three hits in his last five at-bats, with no strikeouts. Adell is 5 for 25 this spring.
