Parades are nothing new to the El Segundo Little League All-Stars.
After all, being feted comes with the territory when you win the Little League World Series — which they did in dramatic fashion.
They have had parades in their home town and their own Rose Parade float on New Year’s Day, all to celebrate their title, which came after Louis Lappe hit a game-winning home run in the sixth inning in the championship game against Curacao on Aug. 27.
The team was part of another parade, along with hundreds of other youth baseball players, during opening day of the new Little League season on Saturday, Feb. 24. El Segundo Little League, founded in 1954, also unveiled a plaque and sign commemorating the World Series title.
Little Leaguers from around the region were thrilled to meet World Series hero Louis and his teammates, who made a thrilling, roller-coaster run to the national title.
Danny Boehle, the manager who guided the 2023 championship team, was also on hand, throwing out the ceremonial first pitch of the season.
About 450 kids ages 3 to 11 donned their uniforms and marched through Main Street on Saturday morning, ending at George Brett Field.
After the opening day ceremonies, they kids played ball — officially kicking off the new season. And perhaps it’s the start of another championship season.
