CARSON — Authorities are seeking the public’s assistance in identifying the person responsible for a hit-and-run crash that killed a 54-year-old woman in Carson.

Cherise Johnson was struck on Aug. 31 shortly after 6:05 p.m. at the corner of Del Amo Boulevard and Tillman Avenue as she was walking southbound in the intersection before being hit by a vehicle traveling westbound on Del Amo Boulevard, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.

The Carson City Council voted unanimously on Nov. 6 to approve a $25,000 reward for information leading to the identification, apprehension, and conviction of the person responsible for Johnson’s death.

“We sympathize with the victim’s family and hope that this reward will assist in expediting the identification, arrest, and conviction of those who caused this tragedy,” Carson Mayor Lula Davis-Holmes said in a statement released Friday.

“This could’ve happened to anyone. I’m calling on all of our Carson family. If anyone has information to assist the Carson’s Sheriff’s Station, please come forward.”

Sheriff’s officials said witnesses of the collision stated that the vehicle was a white SUV.

Anyone with information regarding the fatal hit-and-run crash was urged to contact Carson Sheriff’s Station Traffic Bureau Investigator R. Long or Investigator C. Sam at 310-839-1123 or by email at carsontrafflasd.org. Tipsters who prefer to remain anonymous can call Crime Stoppers at 800-222-8477 or lacrimestoppers.org
