Pasadena Heritage, a nonprofit dedicated to preserving the historic, architectural and cultural resources of the city, is set to welcome its new executive director next Monday, June 3rd.
Erin Simon, a public historian with personal experience rehabilitating properties within historical districts, will succeed Sue Mossman, who is retiring after more than 40 years of service at Pasadena Heritage, the organization’s leaders announced on Monday, May 28, promising a smooth transition.
“Pasadena Heritage is fortunate to have recruited a person with the unique qualifications and experience that Erin brings to us,” Annaly Bennett, chair of Pasadena Heritage’s Board of Directors, said in a statement. “We drew from a deep and diverse set of candidates, a number of whom were well positioned to meet our requirements. With her experience and strong fundraising knowledge, she is the right person to lead Pasadena Heritage into the second quarter of the 21st Century.”
The extensive candidate search began last September with the formation of a search committee assembled by the board, which consists of the current board chair, treasurer, seven former board chairs, a former senior staff member, and a paid search consultant.
This committee, led by former Board chair Steve Preston, met weekly to oversee the search process, which included reviewing 117 resumes and interviewing 17 final candidates who came from Los Angeles and across the nation.
Preston said Simon “brings an array of talent and experience” to the table that will help Pasadena Heritage grow in the future.
“The search committee was particularly impressed with her vision to expand our efforts in the realm of cultural heritage, while continuing our longstanding advocacy for Pasadena’s historically significant built environment,” he said. “This will strengthen the bonds between Pasadena Heritage and all communities in the city.”
