Pasadena’s Director of Transportation Laura Rubio-Cornejo is set to resign her post to serve as general manager for the Los Angeles Department of Transportation, L.A. and Pasadena officials announced Tuesday, Aug. 29.
Rubio-Cornejo has served as Pasadena director since 2019, and has more than 21 years of experience in municipal, regional, and state government. She served as the deputy executive officer of countywide planning with the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority — Metro.
The move follows a nationwide search for the next LADOT GM, following the resignation of former GM Seleta Reynolds last year. Rubio-Cornejo will replace Interim General Manager Connie Llanos.
“Laura Rubio-Cornejo is a proven implementer with a record of delivering projects on time and on budget. She is well positioned to focus the department on executing critical traffic safety improvements and delivering a high-level of customer service to Angelenos,” L.A. Mayor Karen Bass said in a statement.
“She is a leader who fights for equity and will guide the department’s efforts to implement real solutions that support historically disinvested neighborhoods who are disproportionately impacted by traffic violence. I am confident that Laura will guide the department’s work to deliver for communities by making streets safer while helping us prepare for major upcoming events that will draw visitors from around the world.”
It was that Metro experience that L.A. Mayor Karen Bass cited in choosing Rubio-Cornejo for the job.
Bass described Rubio-Cornejo as a “proven implementer with a record of delivering projects on time and on budget.”
