The driver of a car that collided with a Metro A Line train in Pasadena last week suffered a medical problem just before the crash, police said.
The Pasadena woman, who was driving from a dialysis treatment, blacked out while driving toward the railroad tracks and ran into the train as it was crossing, a police statement said.
Firefighters rescued the driver, whose injuries, police said, included a fractured back and swelling of the brain. Her current medical condition was not revealed.
The woman, who police described as perhaps in her 70s, had undergone heart surgery in the past.
The train conductor was also hurt during the collision at Raymond Avenue and California Boulevard at 9:18 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 28.
The conductor was treated at a hospital for minor injuries and released that day, Metro spokesman Jose Ubaldo said.
