What’s closed for Indigenous Peoples Day or Columbus Day, Monday, Oct. 14, in the LA area

Government offices – Los Angeles city and county and national – are normally closed for Indigenous Peoples Day or Columbus Day holiday.

The city and county of Los Angeles observe, as of 2017, Indigenous Peoples Day in October.

The federal government observes Columbus Day.

The state of California does not observe Columbus Day or Indigenous Peoples Day as a state holiday (www.sos.ca.gov/state-holidays).

Superior courts in Los Angeles County observed Native American Day on Sept. 27 (www.lacourt.org/holiday/ui/index.aspx).

Los Angeles Unified School District schools are open on Monday (achieve.lausd.net/calendar).

Here is a sampling of other services that may have altered schedules on Oct. 14 for the holiday.

Banks: Closed (www.federalreserve.gov/aboutthefed/k8.htm).

Libraries: Los Angeles Public Library locations are closed. www.facebook.com/lapubliclibrary and www.lapl.org/holiday-closures

Los Angeles County Library locations are closed. www.facebook.com/LACountyLibrary and lacountylibrary.org

Mail: The U.S. Postal Service does not deliver regular mail, and post offices are closed. www.usps.com. www.usps.com/holiday/holiday-schedule.htm

Transit: Buses and subway services in Los Angeles run on a regular schedule (www.metro.net). For future holidays, check the Saturday, Sunday and Holidays schedule section for the routes you need; for example, the G Line: tinyurl.com/5vx8ky59

Metrolink trains run on a regular schedule (www.metrolinktrains.com). Check here for observed holidays: tinyurl.com/2ne5z5vf

Trash: Pickup schedule for Los Angeles Sanitation and Environment customers is on a regular schedule. 800-773-2489. Also, on their website, under What We Do, click on Collection, and then click on Holiday Trash Collection: www.lacitysan.org.
