Here is a sampling of things to do in the San Fernando Valley and the greater Los Angeles area.

Halloween at Sunland Recreation Center: The event has a “Nightmare Before Christmas” theme and includes includes costume contests, a trick-or-treat “village,” carnival games and prizes, and a “glow-in-the-dark haunted hunt” on the center’s field, 4-8 p.m. Oct. 31. Halloween at Branford Recreation Center: The event’s “Alice in Wonderland” theme is “We’re All Mad Here” includes costume contests (see the flyer for contest times by age groups; ages 4 and younger, 5:30 p.m.: tinyurl.com/59ajrn65), carnival games, music, face painting, candy and refreshments, 3:30-7:30 p.m. Oct. 31. Halloween at Lanark Recreation Center: The event has a “Beetlejuice” theme and includes arts and crafts, candy, costume contest, and games, 6-10 p.m. Oct. 31. In addition, as a fundraiser, the event has a black light “Balloon Room” (entry is $2 per person or $ for three people; funds raised go to the public advisory board at Lanark for its effort to improve the park and parking). Halloween – Los Angeles Department of Recreation and Parks: Check the website for events at Los Angeles city parks.
