National Night Out, the first Tuesday in August — Aug. 6 this year — brings law enforcement officers, emergency personnel and the public together to learn about local neighborhood crime, crime prevention tips, safety tips around home and creating neighborhood watch groups while having fun in a relaxed atmosphere.

Neighborhoods may put together their own block-party — often inviting their senior lead police officers — to discuss how to keep their areas safer from crime.
