A fire gutted a converted garage and spread to a nearby apartment building Tuesday night in Valley Glen, displacing nine people and leading to an arson investigation.
The Los Angeles Fire Department reported that firefighters knocked down the blaze on the 12100 block of Oxnard Street, just west of Laurel Canyon Boulevard, about 8 p.m. after 20 minutes on scene, said LAFD spokeswoman Margaret Stewart.
No one was injured in the fire, which apparently started in the detatched garage, which had been converted to a living space, and spread to the adjacent apartment building, damaging two units, Stewart said.
Between the converted garage and the apartment units, a total of nine people were displaced and are being assisted by the Red Cross, Stewart said.
“The cause of the fire to the detached garage is believed to be suspicious, and LAFD Arson is on scene to investigate,” Stewart said in a statement.
