A 22-year-old man was arrested early Sunday, April 16, after he shot a woman inside a Santa Ana bar, police said.
The victim remained in the hospital on Sunday afternoon, said Sgt. Maria Lopez, a Santa Ana Police Department spokeswoman. No motive or relationship between the suspect and victim was established, she said.
The shooting was reported just after 1 a.m. at the Proof Bar & Lounge at 215 N. Broadway. Officers arrived to find a woman suffering from what appeared to be a gunshot wound in her chest.
Witnesses described the shooter to police, who arrested Armando Alvarez of Santa Ana about one-third of a mile away near the intersection of 5th Street and Sycamore Avenue. He surrendered without a struggle, police said in a news release. Alvarez was booked into Santa Ana Jail on suspicion of attempted murder.
A message was left at Proof Bar seeking comment.
