The primary campaign season is well underway here in the Golden State.
The deadline for candidates to file paperwork to run in California’s statewide primary — held this year on Tuesday, March 5 — was Friday, Dec. 8. Those running in California’s 47th congressional district, however, had until Dec. 13 to file because the incumbent, Rep. Katie Porter, is not running for reelection.
Because some of the congressional districts that represent Orange County residents span more than one county, candidates’ information was gathered from the Orange County Registrar of Voters as well as San Diego, San Bernardino, Riverside and Los Angeles counties’ registrars. Per the state elections code, congressional candidates must file within their county of residence, said Bob Page, Orange County’s registrar.
An official list of who is running will be posted by the secretary of state on Thursday, Dec. 28, but until then, here is an initial look at the candidates who filed for congressional seats in Orange County.
