JSerra’s girls cross country and track field programs added two top runners to a group that won CIF championships last season.
Sophie Polay, a junior this school year, transferred to JSerra from Santa Margarita and sophomore Chole Elbaz transferred to JSerra from Xavier Prep in Palm Desert. According to information on Tuesday at the CIF Southern Section website Elbaz and Polay must observe the “sit-out period” that delays their eligibility until Oct. 2 for cross country and March 24 for track and field
Elbaz was the CIF Southern Section girls cross country champion in Division 5 last season. She was the Desert Empire League champion in the 800 and in the 1600 during the track and field season.
Polay finished seventh in the CIF-SS Division 3 girls cross country finals last season. She was fifth in the 3200 in the CIF-SS Division 3 finals in track and field this past spring.
JSerra won the CIF-SS Division 4 girls cross country championship and the CIF State girls Division IV cross country championship, and won the CIF-SS Division 3 girls track and field championship last school year.
Also in Orange County girls cross country, 2022 county girls cross country athlete of the year Holly Barker on Monday was declared immediately eligible at Dana Hills for her junior year. Barker was at Laguna Hills last season.
