Here we are in the middle of March, a month of change, renewal and growth.
The Reader’s Digest website says, “Overall, March is full of surprising and fun monthly, weekly and daily observances, from Chocolate Chip Cookie Week and International Rescue Cat Day to Popcorn Lover’s Day and World Poetry Day too.”
It is also the month of March Madness, as any college basketball fan can tell you, the time for which these basketball fans wait all year. The fans have an enthusiasm and fervor that fill the room, whether courtside or in their own home.
Basketball is an amazing sport. It requires players to do their individual best while supporting their teammates by being where they are needed at any moment. They work with a sense of belonging together and individual achievement.
When we feel we are where we belong, there is a sense of peace and assurance within us. Belonging has been recognized as a basic need of human beings. The players and coach have to believe in themselves and one another.
John Wooden was an American basketball player and head coach at UCLA. He was also a very wise man, and to him success equated peace of mind.
We don’t have to be in a position of leadership to follow his advice for living our lives. Wooden said many times, “I think you have to be what you are. Don’t try to be somebody else. You have to be yourself at all times.”
Believing in oneself is more than a mere catchphrase; it’s a mindset that influences every aspect of our lives. It’s about having confidence in our abilities, embracing our uniqueness and acknowledging that we possess the power to shape our experiences.
Living a life of vitality and spirit is not about perfection or success; it is about being fully engaged and having a sense of “team” with the people around us. It’s about investing fully in our own life, the good, the bad and the best.
