Jorge Cueva, founder and owner of Tempo Cantina and other restaurants, has revealed his latest effort: a new multi-themed dining concept called Fish Market Mr. Tempo that will take over the shuttered Taps Fish House space in Brea.
“It will be four concepts in one, a fish market, sushi restaurant, steakhouse and Mexican restaurant,” explained Cueva. The restauranteur plans on closing the current Tempo Cantina at 1060 E. Imperial Highway in late April or early May, around the same time he hopes to open his new concept.
“The lease at the location we’re at ended, so instead of leasing at the new building, we bought it,” he said. Noting that the former Taps Fish House venue is “four times bigger” than the current Brea Tempo Cantina location, Cueva said he wants the new venture to act as the first installment of his Fish Market Mr. Tempo restaurants, with locations in Miami, Las Vegas, New York City and San Pedro to follow.

In addition to being a restauranteur, Cueva, who goes by the moniker “Mr. Tempo,” is a also celebrity who has amassed roughly 1.1 million followers on Instagram. Describing himself “the Michael Jordan of restaurants” in a 2020 article in Forbes Mexico, Cueva owns and oversees such party-forward spots like King and Queen Sports Bar and Cantina in San Diego and (controversially) Valle De Guadalupe, Mexico, and Tempo Cantinas in Brea, Anaheim Hills and Downey, to name a few. With more than 130 restaurant openings under his belt, Cueva was named by Yahoo Finances as one of “20 Entrepreneurs You Must Follow” in 2020.
