Teams of high school and community college students have been hammering away at a project taking everything they have learned and putting it to the test.
If they’ve nailed their studies, then the final result is a sturdy structure, such as a tiny house, a shed or a playhouse, that might have won them the Construction Industry Education Foundation’s 38th annual Design Build Competition.
More than 30 student teams spent Wednesday and Thursday building the structure they designed over the last four months. They also had to prepare the associated construction documents a project would be required to file.
The structures were assembled over two days in the parking lot of Golden West College and were judged by members of the Southwest Mountain States Regional Council of Carpenters.
The winners are:
— Best in Show Open: Tahquitz High School
— Best in Show Shed: Sultana High School
— Rookie Team of the Year: Fontana High School
— Architecture Open: Central Union High School
— Architecture Shed: Don Bosco High School
— Craftmanship: Valencia High School
— Safety Award: Rancho Verde High School
