After its inaugural O.C. location in Irvine proved a big hit, with lines snaking out the door on opening day, Los Angeles-based fast-casual salad spot Sweetgreen makes its second area debut this Tuesday, Aug. 22 in Tustin.
The 2,400-square foot location, which moves into the former Pizza Press spot, will accommodate 16 diners inside with outdoor seating available for 34 diners on the restaurant’s patio.
Sweetgreen has made a name for itself, especially among corporate folk hankering for fast and typically nutritious meals at lunchtime, with its freshly made seasonal salads and warm bowls. Unlike many fast-casual chains, the company makes use of local suppliers and farms. (Its Irvine location, which opened in July, uses produce from Southern California-based places like Dynasty Farm, Coke Farm and Frog Hollow Farm.)
Diners can look forward to such dishes as the charcuterie Cobb salad, the hummus crunch salad, the kale Caesar, the fish taco bowl, and the hot honey chicken plate — to name a few.
To mark its newest location, Sweetgreen will host an opening-day party with live music by O.C.-based musician Brandon Wildish from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. The fete will feature a build-your-own floral bar from Peaches Floral, coffee drinks from White Sparrow Coffee, vegan cookies from The Secret Baker, and salad-themed beaded bracelets from Beadiful Jewelry.
For each meal sold on opening day, Sweetgreen will donate a meal to nonprofit Food Finders to help feed people in Orange County experiencing food insecurity.
Founded in 2006 by Georgetown University chums Nicolas Jammet, Nathaniel Ru, and Jonathan Neman, who came up with the idea after purportedly growing tired of the campus’s unhealthy and boring meals, the dorm room start-up has since ballooned to more than 160 locations nationwide.
