The cold, wet storms set to pummel Southern California have led to some closures or warnings of changes in services in the coming days.
The combination of heavy snow and high winds expected to last through Saturday, Feb. 25, has prompted the National Weather Service’s Los Angeles office to issue its first blizzard warning.

Mt. Baldy Resort in the San Gabriel Mountains is closed Wednesday and Thursday, Feb. 23, the resort’s Twitter account said early Wednesday. They are doing their best to “brace for it in order to be ready” for skiing in the coming days, the account said.
Santa Anita racetrack has canceled racing through the weekend in anticipation of the impending storm.
“The decision to cancel both days out of an abundance of caution was made in consultation with industry stakeholders, including the Thoroughbred Owners of California, the California Thoroughbred Trainers Association, and the California Horse Racing Board,” according to the website.
Park officials say the weekend cancellations are being made to “prioritize the safety of the competitors.”
In Newport Beach, the Balboa Island Ferry issued an “orange alert” Wednesday morning, meaning service could be temporarily suspended.
“Due to current conditions and the forecast, there is a significant chance service might be temporarily suspended today,” the service’s Instagram page said. “If service is suspended we will post an update, but due to today’s forecast it is likely we will stay at Orange Alert for the entire day.”
This is a developing story. Please check back for updates.
