“It is with a heavy heart and great consideration that we have decided to temporarily close our beloved Anaheim location,” the ownership of Pour Vida Tortillas and Taps said in a social media post on Wednesday, Aug. 23. “Many of you have been with us since our beginning on Center Street and have been loyal customers, watching our family and business grow over the years.”
Signed by the Martinez family, the farewell missive noted that “[i]n 2023 most restaurants have seen close to a 30% or greater decline in sales and we have certainly been one of them.” The family goes on to express their gratitude for the Pour Vida Tortillas and Taps staff, writing, “We would like to publicly apologize to our employees who are waiting patiently to be paid for the time they have already worked. We care about each and every one of them individually and the team as a whole and it is destroying us to have to rip this source of income away from them for the time being.”
Pour Vida Tortillas and Taps, which drew crowds for its chef-inspired tacos, like the pineapple skirt steak taco and the blacked salmon taco, first opened in Anaheim in 2015. In only two years, the eatery garnered the attention of former Orange County Register restaurant critic Brad Johnson, who wrote in 2017, “After sampling every taco on the menu at Jimmy Martinez’s hipster taqueria, I haven’t found a single one that I don’t like.”
The success of the restaurant promoted the family to move to a larger space in Anaheim and open two more locations, in Fullerton and Newport Beach. Today only the Fullerton eatery remains open.
