Orange County boys basketball Top 25: Pacifica Christian stays at No. 1, Feb. 6

This week’s Orange County high school boys basketball rankings.

Notable this week: JSerra continued its climb in the rankings with Trinity League wins over Servite and Orange Lutheran last week. … San Joaquin League champion Pacifica Christian reached  No. 1 for the first time last week and stays there. … Orangewood Academy moves up after beating Fairmont Prep. … Cypress and Mission Viejo return to the Top 25.

BOYS BASKETBALL TOP 25(Records through Sunday, Feb. 5)

1. Pacifica Christian 20-8: The Tritons finish the regular season No. 1 in the Orange County rankings. They won the San Joaquin League, which has three Top 10 teams in it. They are seeded No. 2 in CIF Southern Section Division 2A.

2. Mater Dei 22-6: The Monarchs are heating up, with wins in seven of their past eight games. The run includes victories over Crean Lutheran, Orange Lutheran and Santa Margarita. Mater Dei is seeded No. 2 in Division 1.

3. JSerra 20-8: The Lions go into the playoffs with a six-game winning streak that includes victories over St. John Bosco, Orange Lutheran and Santa Margarita. They tied for third place in the Trinity League. JSerra is seeded No. 4 in Division 1.

Previous ranking: 4

4. Orange Lutheran 16-10: The Lancers lost to St. John Bosco and JSerra in Trinity League games. Orange Lutheran will play in Division 2AA in the playoffs.

Previous ranking: 3

5. Santa Margarita 20-8: The Eagles lost to the Trinity League’s top two teams, St. John Bosco and Mater Dei, in the final week of league play. Tied for third place with Orange Lutheran and JSerra. They will play in Division 1 in the playoffs.

Previous ranking: 5

6. Canyon 23-5: The Comanches won nine straight games to conclude the regular season and win the Crestview League championship. They are in the Division 1 playoffs.

7. Foothill 24-5: The Knights had to forfeit their final league game because they already had played the CIF’s maximum of 28…
