Pretty soon now, the Orange County Fair will end its four-week stretch and pack up for good until 2024, calling it quits on Aug. 13.
Of course, a proper goodbye entails one last sweep through the fair’s amusement rides, and if you’re planning on saying sayonara to the fair this week in person, there are a few we think you shouldn’t miss.

My pick is the bumper cars, a tried-and-true classic. I mostly went on for the bit (I was about two feet taller than the average rider), but I can’t deny that it’s a fun time, both for the kids and the adult spectators. The level of control on the bumper cars is low, and paired with the mostly-child drivers, it’s a hilarious sight. Who wouldn’t enjoy spectating 5-year-olds with road rage?! Ranking on the lower side of ride costs at four tickets, the ride will leave plenty of tickets for other rides, making it a must. This is a guaranteed good time for kids and adults alike! -DE

While your spectator perspective might not be as eventful, I think bumper cars are a fair classic for a reason. It takes me back to the excitement I felt as a kid on the day I was finally tall enough to drive a bumper car at Fun Zone on Balboa Island all by myself. Nothing compares to the feeling of freedom while you drive a bumper car with the intention to knock into as many other vehicles as possible, even if it’s only for a few minutes. – CB
