A Newport Beach crossing guard was hospitalized with multiple injuries after she was struck by a car near Eastbluff Elementary School early Tuesday morning, Feb. 13.
The guard, identified as Kathy Japes on a GoFund Me page, was injured shortly after 8 a.m., when a teenage girl ran a stop sign at the intersection of Vista Del Oro and Vista Roma and hit Japes, Newport Beach Police Sgt. Steve Oberon said.
The driver stayed at the scene and cooperated with police, he said.
Japes had a broken hip, pelvis, shoulder, and elbow, as well as a concussion and a bruised lung, according to the GoFundMe.
A spokesperson for the Newport-Mesa Unified School District could not be reached for comment.
No other injuries were reported.
