Where else can you hear cultural music and performances, drag queen storytime, diverse poetry and prose, but at the LibroMobile Literary Arts Festival?
The hybrid independent bookstore, nonprofit and arts co-op near downtown Santa Ana celebrated five years in the community with its annual festival, held Sunday, March 5, at the Heritage Museum of Orange County.
It was the second year the free event was held at the Heritage Museum, said LibroMobile founder Sarah Rafael Garcia. The first event was created as a “counter festival” to other local festivals that, Garcia said, did not centralize or promote diverse creatives.
Sunday’s line-up included readings by local creatives, LGBTQ writers and artists of color, cultural performances, dance workshops and community vendors. Prose writers and poets read their works live.
The Turning Wheel “barrio bus,” a mobile classroom project from the University of San Diego and the Chicano Park Museum and Cultural Center, held an exhibition. And Elvia Susana Rubalcava, a Chicana producer and playwright and the executive director of the Fullerton Museum Center, received the Modesta Avila award.
