Police are seeking a man suspected of assaulting his ex-girlfriend and burglarizing her Laguna Beach residence, authorities said Wednesday.
Besides the incident reported Wednesday, the 31-year-old suspect, Charles Thomas Kelley IV, has an active warrant on suspicion of a previous incident involving assault with a deadly weapon on Jan. 21, according to court records.
Police said that on the evening of Tuesday, April 18, Kelley burglarized his ex-girlfriend’s residence on the 1600 block of Tahiti Avenue. Armed with a knife, the suspect attacked and strangled the victim, who sustained significant injuries, a police statement said. Kelley allegedly told the victim he was going to kill her and demanded she give him $700, police said in describing an “attempted murder investigation.”

Police responded to the incident at the residence on Wednesday morning, April 19, along with paramedics from the Laguna Beach Fire Department who treated the victim for her injuries. She was transported to a hospital for further evaluation and police said Kelley fled the scene prior to their arrival.
Kelley is described as 6 feet 1 inch tall, weighing 200 pounds with brown hair and blue eyes. He was last seen wearing a gray t-shirt, and dark blue jacket with black pants, according to police.
