Slave 2 Nothing, an organization co-founded by In-N-Out Burger’s owner and president is hosting free screenings of “Sound of Freedom.”
The film tells the story of Tim Ballard, a member of U.S. Department of Homeland Security who quit his job to rescue children from sex trafficking in Colombia. It stars Jim Caviezel, who played Jesus in 2004’s “The Passion of the Christ.”
Lynsi Snyder-Ellingson, who is the granddaughter of In-N-Out’s founders Harry and Esther Snyder, said in a news release that the message of the film is important because human trafficking is a global problem and America is one of its biggest customers.
“Sound of Freedom” has been a surprise hit since it opened on July, beating “Mission Impossible” to date with a $153,438,887 domestic gross versus $142,180,389, according to the website Box Office Mojo.
The film has a 99% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes but been controversial because some have seen links in its message to the political conspiracy theory QAnon.
Slave 2 Nothing has a dual mission of fighting human trafficking and substance abuse by funding grass-roots organizations in places where In-N-Out does business.
The free screening will be at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 9 at the following theaters.
- AMC Montebello, 1475 N. Montebello Blvd., Montebello.
- AMC Tustin, 2457 Park Ave., Tustin.
- AMC San Diego, 770 Dennery Road, San Diego.
There will be three other screenings Aug. 23 in San Jose, Las Vegas and Houston.

The film is rated PG-13 and recommended for audiences 16 and older by Common Sense Media, a website that evaluates movies for such content as violence, language and positive messages.
Snyder-Ellingson and her husband Sean Ellingson have been actively involved in fundraising for Slave 2 Nothing, including upcoming events at In-N-Out’s 75th anniversary festival, on Oct. 22 in Pomona.
