A house along Newport Beach’s Back Bay has been red-tagged after the collapse of a cliff behind it, and city officials are waiting for a geologist to assess the threat to the home and two others on either side of it.
“There was a small slide that happened on the hill in front of one of the homes that is potentially threatening that property,” Newport Beach city spokesman John Pope said.
While that home was red-tagged, the homes to each side were being watched “out of an abundance of caution,” he said, while the geologist checked on the area.
Newport Beach fire crews responded to the slide on Friday, and the city is monitoring the situation through the weekend while awaiting the report, Pope said.
It was not immediately known if the slide was caused by the recent storms.
KTLA reported the homes are on Galaxy Drive overlooking the Newport Back Bay area.
