Incumbent Tim Shaw is leading David Johnson in the race for the Orange County Board of Education Trustee Area 4 seat as early results come in Tuesday evening.
Shaw was first elected to the Orange County Board of Education in 2020, resigned in November 2021 amid a legal challenge to his holding two elected positions simultaneously and was re-appointed just a few weeks later. Shaw previously served on the La Habra City Council for 13 years and served as the city’s mayor.
Shaw said that “unnecessarily divisive politics should be kept out of the classroom,” and instead, students should “remain focused on the basics so they are prepared for future participation in the workforce.”
“Our kindergarten through grade 12 system should not have hidden agendas,” Shaw said.

Since 2020, Johnson has been serving as a board member for the Westminster School District. Additionally, he works at an international consulting firm and serves on the Orange County Committee for School Board Organization.
Johnson highlights bolstering charter schools as one of his main priorities if elected and said that the OCBE “needs to ensure that all charter schools are not just publicly funded private schools seeking financial rewards for school managers and lifelong politicians.”
“The approval of charter petitions should be made under local control by your locally elected trustees who are close to their communities, not decided by a select few radicalized lifelong politicians,” said Johnson. “Local parents should have a voice and choice in their local community’s schools.”
Trustee Area 4 serves portions of Buena Park, Fullerton, La Habra, Garden Grove, Stanton and Westminster.
Results will continue to be tallied throughout Tuesday night and will be updated every weekday until all ballots are counted. Continue to check back here for updates.
