Incumbent Kenneth Williams has the lead over challenger Nancy Watkins in the race for the Orange County Board of Education Trustee Area 3 seat on Tuesday.
Williams is vying for an eighth term on the Orange County Board of Education, with his first stint on the board beginning in 1996. Williams is a board-certified primary care physician and is on staff at St. Joseph Hospital, Hoag Hospital-Newport and Irvine and family practice department chairman at Children’s Hospital of Orange County.
“I have a dedication to the rights of parents to direct the upbringing of their children and to be notified of their children’s well-being in public schools,” said Williams. “I will always fight for the rights of parents, parental choice and charter schools. I will always fight to protect the innocence of children from political indoctrination by the woke left union agenda.”
“Parents are the backbone to public education,” Williams said. “They must be respected and included in all aspects of their child’s education experience.”

Watkins has been an educator in Orange County for more than 30 years and serves as the director of the Education Doctoral Program at Cal State Fullerton.
After first-round results showed Watkins in a close race with Williams, she said, “I am honored to have a chance to serve. I have an incredible team and grassroots support that demonstrates voters see the need for change on the Orange County Board of Education.”
In her campaign for a spot on the board, Watkins has said that education-focused legislation should “address current challenges and prepare for future needs.”
Some legislation she notes as needed in education is “improving school safety and emergency preparedness,” “increasing and stabilizing funding for public schools to address disparities in funding” and “providing more resources for mental health services in schools.”
