Incumbents on Wednesday continued to hold their leads in the three Orange County Board of Education races on the primary ballot.
As of Wednesday evening, March 6, Trustees Jorge Valdes, Kenneth Williams and Tim Shaw led in the first, third and fourth trustee areas, respectively.
In Trustee Area 1, Valdes is ahead of Beatriz Mendoza with 60.5% of the votes. Trustee Area 1 represents portions of Anaheim, Santa Ana, Orange, Stanton, Garden Grove and Tustin.

The closest race is Trustee Area 3 with Williams ahead of challenger Nancy Watkins with 55% of the votes. Trustee Area 3 represents Anaheim, Brea, Orange, Placentia, Villa Park and Yorba Linda.
Shaw was also ahead of opponent David Johnson in the Trustee Area 4 race with 61.6% of the votes. Trustee Area 4 represents portions of Buena Park, Fullerton, La Habra, Garden Grove, Stanton and Westminster.
Ballot counting is still ongoing for all three races. County elections officials have until April 2 to report final results to the secretary of state.
If the results stand, the incumbents will remain on the OCBE with Trustees Mari Barke and Lisa Sparks, a continuation of the conservative majority. The OCBE mainly oversees the county’s education budget and charter school applications and acts as the “district” for some of the county’s most vulnerable schools.
