Just in time for Labor Day, Del Taco is getting into barbecue.
The Orange County-based fast food chain will be serving pulled beef brisket for a limited time beginning Thursday, Aug. 24, according to a news release.
The meat will be pit-smoked for 16 hours, the news release said, and served with a barbecue sauce
Items include an Epic Honey Chipotle BBQ Brisket & Bacon Burrito that includes fries, cheddar cheddar cheese and sour cream wrapped in a flour tortilla, priced around $8.99, depending on location.
There is also a Honey Chipotle BBQ Brisket Quesadilla and Honey Chipotle BBQ Brisket & Bacon Fries, both priced around $6.99.
The flavors are new to Del Taco, according to chief marketing officer Tim Hackbardt, who said the project has been in the works for more than a year.
“We’ve never done that kind of a flavor profile,” he said. “I’d say in the Mexican fast food space, this is ultra-quality programming.”
Del Taco is also bringing back its Funnel Cake fries for around $1.99 for a limited time.
Del Taco launched the new items last week with a Western-themed barbecue, complete with outdoor grills and a live band, at Benny Boy Brewing, a craft brewery and cider house in the Lincoln Heights district of Los Angeles, about an hour’s drive from Del Taco headquarters in Lake Forest.
Del Yeah! rewards members can get free delivery of the new items with a $20 purchase through Sept. 30, according to Del Taco. Orders must be made through the app or online.
