Looking back over his 30 years of public service, including the past 19 in university policing, newly appointed Cal State Fullerton Police Chief Anthony Frisbee said ensuring the wellbeing of a campus community is where his passion lies.
That passion is one of the attributes that stood out the most to CSUF university officials during the yearlong process of vetting candidates for the position of police chief.
With administrators, faculty, staff, students, university police personnel, members of outside police agencies — not to mention at least a dozen members of his immediate and extended family — looking on, Frisbee was officially sworn in on March 10 in a special ceremony held at Golleher Alumni House.
Maintaining partnerships with all factions of the campus is key to university policing, said Frisbee, who officially took over on March 1.
“And I saw that together, we could actually make a difference, not because of our department alone, but because of all of the department and campus partners, plus the university that we have here at Cal State,” Frisbee said, after taking the oath from Vice President of Administration and Finance Alexander Porter. “Everybody is here for the same mission of helping our students be successful.”
Frisbee is the top law enforcement officer for one of the largest and most diverse campus communities in the state, responsible for the safety of 40,000 students, 4,500 faculty and staff members and about 5,000 visitors each day.
Frisbee most recently served as interim director of campus safety services — essentially the chief of police — at UC Riverside. Prior to that, he spent 17 years in the UC Irvine police department, most recently as a lieutenant managing UCI’s police and public safety professionals on the medical campus in Orange.
Frisbee holds a master’s degree in criminology, law and society from UCI and an undergraduate degree in organizational leadership from Chapman University.
