CIF-SS boys soccer finals: Previews of Thursday’s games for the OC teams

CIF-SS BOYS SOCCER CHAMPIONSHIPS

DIVISION 3

Los Alamitos (17-6-3) vs. Quartz Hill (16-1-4)

Site, time: Antelope Valley College, Thursday, 5 p.m.

Outlook: Los Alamitos tries for its third CIF-SS boys soccer championship. The Griffins won section titles in the sport in 1992 and 2002. They advanced to this championship game by beating Chino Hills 2-1 in the first round, Bloomington 4-0 in the second round, fourth-seeded Canyon 1-0 in the quarterfinals and Newport Harbor 2-1 in the semifinals. Senior midfielder James Metcalfe and senior forward Demitrious Tanks have been among the Griffins’ top contributors. Quartz Hill lost in last season’s CIF-SS Division 5 championship game 1-0 to Artesia. They tied Littlerock for the championship of the Golden League. Quartz Hill’s only loss was to Littlerock 2-1 on Jan. 11.

DIVISION 4

Orange Lutheran (16-6-2) vs. Littlerock (16-1-4)

Site, time: Littlerock High, Thursday, 4 p.m.

Outlook: The Lancers finished fourth in the six-team Trinity League. In the playoffs they defeated Woodbridge 3-2 in the first round, Bishop Amat 2-0 in the second round and Great Oak 5-0 in the quarterfinals. Their semifinals match against Oxnard was 1-1 at the end of regulation, with Orange Lutheran winning on penalty kicks 4-2. Junior midfielder Hector Arellanes is Orange Lutheran’s leading goal scorer with nine. Senior midfielder Jayden Jimenez and Hayden Snyder have scored eight goals each. Littlerock’s only loss was to Highland 1-0 on Dec. 2. They have since gone 13-0-4. In the playoffs LIttlerock defeated Camarillo 2-0 in the first round, Adelanto 5-0 in the second round, Geffen Academy 2-0 in the quarterfinals and Tesoro 4-0 in the semifinals. Orange Lutheran’s only previous boys soccer final was in 1999 when it tied Carpinteria 1-1 in the Division V championship game.
