CIF-SS BOYS SOCCER FINALS
SATURDAY’S GAMES
DIVISION 1
Sunny Hills (22-1-2) vs. JSerra (17-1-1)
Site, time: Veterans Stadium, Saturday, 4 p.m.
Outlook: Second-seeded Sunny Hills won the CIF-SS Division 3 championship last season with a 1-0 victory over Norte Vista in the final. Sunny Hills also won championships in 1987 and 2016. The Lancers defeated South Torrance in the quarterfinals and Citrus Hill in the semifinals by 1-0 scores. Sunny Hills senior forward Mathias Brown was the CIF-SS Division 3 player of the year last season. He has 25 goals this season. The Lancers’ only loss was to El Dorado on Dec. 26 when their North Orange County Tournament game ended in regulation and El Dorado prevailed on penalty kicks. Top-seeded JSerra’s loss was to Mater Dei 1-0 in a Trinity League game. The Lions finished 8-1-1 in league to take the league championship. They lost to Servite 2-1 in last season’s CIF-SS Division 1 final. In these playoffs JSerra defeated Valencia 4-1 in the first round, Fullerton 4-2 in the quarterfinals and Montclair 3-2 in the semifinals. Sophomore forward Gavin Allageart scored two goals for JSerra against Montclair.
DIVISION 2
San Clemente (12-3-8) vs. Long Beach Poly (10-4-8)
Site, time: Veterans Stadium/Long Beach, 1:30 p.m.
Outlook: San Clemente and Long Beach Poly played to a 1-1 tie on Dec. 3. Fourth-seeded San Clemente is in a boys soccer final for the fifth time. The Tritons won section championships in 2011, ‘18 and ‘19. Seeded fourth in the 32-team Division 2 bracket, San Clemente defeated Norte Vista 2-0 in the first round, Artesia 4-0 in the second round, Santiago of Corona 1-0 in the quarterfinals and Agoura 4-1 in the semifinals. Tritons senior Kai Trager scored two goals and Max Gonzales and Jake Pool scored one each in the win over Agoura. Long Beach Poly is in its second boys soccer final, having won a section title in 1999. In the playoffs the Jackrabbits defeated Palos Verdes 5-4 in the first round, Hesperia 2-1…
