JSerra and Santa Margarita were among the Orange County teams that made the CIF Southern Section boys basketball playoffs as at-large teams.
The two teams finished in a three-way tie for third place in the six-team Trinity League, behind league-champion St. John Bosco and Mater Dei. Orange Lutheran won the tiebreaker criteria to be the league’s third and final automatic qualifier slot from the league.
JSerra is No. 4 and Santa Margarita is No. 5 in the latest Orange County top 25 rankings.
Other Orange County teams receiving at-large entry into the boys basketball playoffs: San Juan Hills, Division 1; Fountain Valley, Marina and Villa Park, Division 2AA; Portola, 2A; Sunny Hills, 3AA; and Laguna Hills, Mission Viejo and Yorba Linda, 3A.
Divisions have at-large berths if the divisions do not have enough automatic qualifiers to fill a 32-team bracket. Divisions 4AA, 4A, 5AA and 5A had enough automatic qualifiers to fill their 32-brackets so they had no room for at-large teams.
