Santa Ana police said a suspect on Wednesday surrendered to authorities, which he initially refused to do after he barricaded himself in a home he had allegedly broken into.
Police responded to a call around 11 a.m. regarding a suspect trying to enter homes on 2000 West 11th St. in Santa Ana. Police discovered that an hour before the call, the suspect made a similar break-in attempt at a mobile home park on 800 S. Sullivan St, said police Sgt. Maria Lopez.
He reportedly entered a mobile home and forced a male victim to drive them to the second location, where he barricaded himself and eventually surrendered to police, Lopez said. The victim fled after the suspect, now in custody, was dropped off.
Police said Fremont Elementary School was briefly placed on lockdown out of precaution but the lockdown has since been lifted.
The suspect’s identity was not immediately made public by police.
