The Anaheim Community Foundation recently received a $5,000 donation from SolidShape.
The story behind the gift is special. The company’s president, Elchin Mirzayev, expanded his company to Anaheim several years ago and attended a City Council meeting when someone presented a “giant check” to the ACF. It inspired him to one day do the same thing. And he did!
Mirzayev presented a “giant check” to Executive Director Janis Heckel and chose to designate the gift to youth scholarships and the Helping Hands program, which benefits many Anaheim community members. Thank you Elchin for helping Anaheim!
Anaheim Elementary district expands with Mandarin
Recently, Anaheim Elementary School District board members voted to add Mandarin to the 2023-24 dual-language immersion program’s curriculum. Theodore Roosevelt Elementary School has been officially named the campus for the program.
Mandarin is one of the most spoken languages in the world, district officials said. It is the third language added to the dual-language program, along with Spanish and Korean.
“We’re excited to add a new language to our DLI program,” Superintendent Christopher Downing said in a statement. “Studies have shown that a new language creates a strong foundation for academic success and career opportunities later in life. Our renowned DLI program sets our amazing Anaheim community apart from many school districts and we cannot wait to have Mandarin spoken in our classrooms.”
